The Power of Praying the Word of God
1 Thessalonians 5:23 (AMP)
And may the God of peace Himself sanctify you through and through [separate you from profane things, make you pure and wholly consecrated to God]; and may your spirit and soul and body be preserved sound and complete [and found] blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ (the Messiah).
Understanding who we are and the fact that we are spirit beings will help us understand the operation of our faith life. I remember hearing a Pastor say, "...faith is of the heart..." and thinking that meant it was of my natural heart or my affection. But he was actually referring to my spirit, the inner unseen part of my being, who is the real me.
When I teach this at my church, I refer to the fact that the part of us that will live forever is our spirit. Our bodies can not live without our spirits. When a person's spirit leaves their body, their body immediately starts to decay.
So, in looking at the diagram above, we can see that it was our spirit that was born of God when we accepted Jesus Christ as Lord. Our spirit was born of the incorruptible seed of the Word of God and now we have God's nature and attributes on the inside of us. Our spirits were born to understand the Word of God and through faith create an abundant and glorious harvest of God's perfect will in our lives here on earth. The problem has been that our minds need to be renewed, because it has not been born again and we have not received our glorified bodies yet.
Most of us have lived by our natural minds and the desires of our flesh. It's been two against one, dominating over our spirits and keeping them silent. This has hindered us from living in God's best, because that requires living by faith. Our faith is in our spirits and must dominate our mind, will, and emotions, in order to bring the awesome plan that God has for us here on earth.
That is why praying the Word of God in first person present-tense is so vital to living our lives by faith. Every time we speak the Word in first person present-tense we are bringing our minds in agreement to the Power of God, that resides in our spirits. The more we speak the Word and pray in other tongues, our spirits begins to take more and more dominion over our mind, will, and emotions. When our mind, will, and emotions agree with our spirit, the results will be the Blessing of the Lord in governing every area of our lives. That means healing, success, witty ideas, light in the darkness and everything good that God has prepared for us. Our end result will be glorious and bring glory to God every time. We will live in and experience the perfect will of God!
